Hi Reader,
Our girls trip to Egypt is only 10 days away!!! We are so incredibly excited to be hosting our first group trip. We've got a fabulous group of 8 ladies signed up to go, and our itinerary is jam packed with ancient wonders, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences.
What we're not as excited about? The 10.5 hour flight there and back 😩
There's no way around it - Long haul flights are not fun. You're cramped up with hundreds of strangers, the seats are uncomfortable (especially in peasant class where we will be), the food is mid, and you're bloated (at least, we always are when we fly).
Here are some tips and essentials we will be taking to make the journey a little more bearable:
🧠 Mindset & Organization
The key is to pace yourself with whatever you bring to keep yourself entertained and don't rush through the meal service. If we go through all of our entertainment in the first 30 minutes, the next 10 hours are going to be even more miserable.
As for organization, you want to make sure the stuff you plan on using during the flight is easily accessible. You don't want to spend half the flight curled up like a shrimp as you dig through the bag at your feet trying to find items that have fallen to the bottom.
😴 Our Recipe For Sleep
Sleep usually eludes us on flights. But, we're hoping a supportive neck pillow + comfy eye mask to block out the lights + earplugs to block out the crying babies + Melatonin gummies will be the perfect recipe for a sleep-filled flight.
👚 Comfy Clothes
We like to wear cozy clothes when we fly (helloooo elastic waistband!) and of course, our compression socks. We prefer pants that are cuffed or tapered at the leg to avoid them dragging the restroom floor (YUCK). We like to bring a lightweight jacket or shacket to wear also. Not only will it make you feel cozy and warm, but it also frees up a little bit of space in your suitcase if you wear your jacket instead of packing it.
🎧 Airfly + Airpods
If you've been following us for a while, you know we LOVE the Airfly. This magical little device lets you listen to in-flight entertainment with your wireless headphones.
No cords to get tangled up in or ill-fitting cheap headphones passed out on the flight. You simply plug your Airfly into the headphone jack on the in-flight entertainment system, and it will connect to your wireless headphones.
📚 Kindle + Audiobooks + Podcasts
Kayla will be downloading a few books to her Kindle Paperwhite and Audible account to enjoy along the way. She's currently reading The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi and absolutely LOVING it. It's a historical fantasy set in the 12th century around a pirate who is on a quest to solve a kidnapping case that takes her to places in and around the Indian Ocean.
If books aren't your thing or you just want to switch it up, you can also download your fav podcasts or ones you've been wanting to listen to before your flight.
🎮 Games
Whether it be a Nintendo Switch or some non-screen options, this is a great way to pass time. Especially if traveling with friends! Ever played Mario Party 35,000 feet in the air? We also plan on taking Mad Libs For Adults, a small notebook to play Paper Telephone, and the Love Letter card game.
💊 Medication Bag
If you have any sort of prescription medication, don't forget to pack it in your carry-on bag. You don't want to check it and then it get lost! We also bring some "just in case" medications like Pepto Tablets, Less-Drowsy Dramamine, and Cold Medicine. And of course Lysol Wipes and Hand Sanitizer. All of this goes in a zippered pouch within our carry-on bag so it's out of the way until we need it.
🧴 Skin Rejuvenation
You've probably seen the videos of girls doing full on skincare and hair routines on flights. That's not us. But flying is dehydrating for your skin. So, we will have some fragrance free lotion, chapstick, and maybe some Jet Lag Under Eye Patches for when we wake up from our long restful nap (trying to manifest here).
If you have any other tips or suggestions for how to make our upcoming long haul flight not suck, let us know!
From our suitcase to yours,
Kayla & Amanda
